Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)

An SLE is an experienced middle or senior leader who has been awarded this nationally-recognised designation following an application and selection process. Each SLE has a particular specialism, although they may also have expertise outside this designation.

SLEs are available for short to medium term deployments to support school improvement work, and to raise the standard of teaching.

Becoming an SLE

Teaching Schools are responsible for the selection and deployment of SLEs as part of the government's plan to give schools a central role in developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system.

STSA hold periodic recruitment rounds for SLEs. Information is sent out to schools with details of how to apply.
